The Huchuy Qosqo Hike from Cusco offers two different trekking routes to reach the impressive Inca site of Huchuy Qosqo, often known as the โlittle brother of Machu Picchu.โ Both options provide stunning views of the Sacred Valley and a unique cultural experience.
Itinerary Option 1: Short Hike to Huchuy Qosqo (Easy)
This Huchuy Qosqo day tour starts with an hour and 20-minute drive from Cusco along the Sacred Valley route to the trailhead. From there, we hike for approximately 1 hour uphill to the archaeological site of Huchuy Qosqo.
Once at the site, we explore for about 1 hour, visiting the urban and agricultural areas, the Water Temple, the Sun Gate, and the ceremonial plaza.
After the guided tour, we hike 40 minutes downhill back to the vehicle, and then return to Cusco in 1 hour and 20 minutes. Along the way, we may stop for lunch or snacks.
Itinerary Option 2: Full Huchuy Qosqo Trek (Moderate)
This Huchuy Qosqo trekking tour begins with hotel pickup in Cusco, followed by a 2-hour drive to the starting point near the village of Sihua, located at 3,800 meters (12,467 ft) above sea level.
From Sihua, we start a 6-hour hike in total. The first 2 hours are a gentle uphill walk, followed by a downhill hike 2 hours with some flat sections leading to the Inca site of Huchuy Qosqo.
After the guided tour of the site, we continue with a 2-hour downhill hike to the village of Lamay, located at 2,750 meters (9,022 ft) above sea level, where our transportation back to Cusco awaits.

This site was built in 1,420 A.D., according to Peruvian archaeologists, and it was used to house around 500 people from different social classes, such as nobles, farmers, and servants. The noble Inca people lived in houses made of carved stones, while the farmers and servants lived in houses made with rustic stones. We also found lookout point houses for the Inca army.
The Incas lived at this site for 112 years, farming crops like potatoes near the Inca site, and at the upper side, they grew various varieties of large corn kernels and quinoa, along the Sacred Valley of the Incas.
This food was dehydrated and stored in warehouses to be traded with different Inca regions, forming the basis of the social economy practiced by the Incas.
