Great Family Day, Epic Sites, Fantastic Private Tour Guide Experience

My family (spouse and 3 year old) did a full day Sacred Valley Private tour with Isaac as tour guide, and originally as driver too. Due to an issue with his car the day prior, he had a friend and fellow tour guide drive with his vehicle, so we ended up sort of having 2 local tour guides in practice for the in vehicle parts. Isaac was the one who came out with us at sites. This was in early July 2025, and our first trip to Peru and Cusco.

So he was the easiest (and by far the quickest to respond) to communicate with on WhatsApp. A matter of minutes following my original text, and very prompt and clear responses following in English.

We wanted to do a general Sacred Valley day, given we had a young (albeit well traveled) child, and with mini back and forth and questions over text decided on -Llama place, Pisaq, Salt mines, Moray Inca site, and Ollantaytambo plus lunch, starting at 7am (and back by about 7pm). Lots of traffic on return leg plus Cusco itself in evening.

It was a very good day, as advertised, with lots of local intel, completely nice vehicle and driving (although the roads are super bumpy and not fun but not any guide’s fault), and lots of fun, great memories, and pics from the experience. Good thing about a private guide is that it both gives you a picture taker, and allows on the fly customizations and extra time at places.

The sites are truly epic, and we are lucky that they are in the condition that they are. You will not be disappointed. And if for some reason you can’t get to Macchu Pichu (i.e. because you have a young child), this will more than make up for it, and you will realize but for a quirk of history that any number of these sites could have been the UNESCO world renowned place.

Lunch was tasty enough but probably the least authentic part of the day in a large dining hall meant for tourists with a buffet. It was local food and service was nice enough, but I would have preferred a place which wasn’t filled mostly with large busloads of tourists, and also more authentic local food that is not cooked on mass like we had for the rest of our time in Cusco and across Peru.

So definitely book Isaac no matter what your tour party looks like as you won’t regret your private tour experience. See the Sacred Valley for sure, and anything else you are able. If you have (young) kids, this works out really well too. My one warning is that roads are bumpy often, and so if you are sensitive, adjust accordingly with what you need to given motion.
