Exploring the Choquequirao Trek in Peru is one of the most rewarding trekking and camping adventures in Peru. This incredible journey follows ancient Inca trails, leading you deep into remote landscapes to reach the hidden archaeological wonder of Choquequirao—often referred to as the “sister city” of Machu Picchu.

Located at the edge of the Andes Mountains and the gateway to the Amazon jungle, Choquequirao offers a unique combination of breathtaking mountain scenery and lush cloud forest. Along the trek, you’ll hike through dramatic canyons, cross river, and witness diverse ecosystems that make this route one of the most scenic in South America.

Camping along the route allows you to fully connect with nature and experience the tranquility of these untouched landscapes of the Andes mountains.

The impressive Choquequirao complex sits at approximately 3,050 masl (10,000 ft) and is divided into several fascinating sectors, including agricultural terraces, ceremonial areas, urban zones, and astronomical structures—showcasing the advanced engineering of the Inca civilization.

Unlike other popular destinations, Choquequirao remains uncrowded, offering a more exclusive and authentic experience. There are no strict visitor limits, and the trek can be done year-round, making it perfect for travelers seeking adventure away from mass tourism.
