FAQs
What Is a Pachamama Ceremony?
A Pachamama ceremony (also known as a Despacho ceremony) is a traditional Andean ritual of gratitude. The shaman prepares sacred offerings for the three gatekeepers known as Pachamama, Aukys, Apus:
-
Coca leaves
-
Flowers
-
Seeds and grains
-
Sweets, symbolic elements, and special wine
Each item represents harmony, abundance, protection, and gratitude. The offering is blessed and then buried or burned as a sacred act of reciprocity with nature.
This ceremony is not a show for tourists โ it is a real spiritual tradition still practiced by Andean communities.
